Do you use Runes in your Divination practice?

Yes! I do use Runes in my Divination Practice and I highly recommend using them. I have several subjects I would like to touch on in answering this question; gatekeeping with Runes, why Runes are more modern now, using them and the basics.

First I want to touch on an issue in our magick community, gatekeeping. You have probably heard this term before, it is in reference to those who believe there is only one way to do magick…their way. I want to remind you that YOU are the magick, the connection to the divine, the energy that manifests reality and no one can tell you how it should be done for you. This is a spiritual practice and you should use your intuition to guide you. There is a big difference between learning tips and being told what to do. I have found that with Runes, we see lots of gatekeeping. I am here to tell you not to listen to that. The whole point of a divination practice is to get in touch with your inner voice of wisdom, not someone else’s. I will argue that we can connect with anything in our world, so go ahead and chose what works best for you, find the Rune set you like and work with them. I do recommend learning the basics and understating the why and how behind the traditional methods but do not let that limit your practice.

The modern revival of Runes is here to stay. In the beginning the Runes were used as a language and a sacred divination tool. For Divination the Rune Sets were used in a Rune Cast on a Rune Cloth. This is still used in practice today. I have a Rune Quick Reference Guide which goes over the Rune Cast and how to read the cloth and your cast. Today we have a more modern take on how to use Runes. The Rune Pull and Rune Mat are becoming very popular for an everyday practice, similar to Tarot. These modern versions of a Rune practice are no less profound or helpful than the cast of the past. I create and share Rune Mats. I find them to be very helpful in establishing a Rune practice, learn the Runes and access your inner wisdom. The goal is to expand your mind and question reality in a way you have not before. These mats guide your thoughts, similarly to a Tarot spread. I highly recommend this style of Rune divination to beginners still learning the Runes and their meanings. I offer a Rune Flash Card set to help learn them quicker. When starting a Rune practice the most important thing is connecting with the process. Get a set you like and start doing a Rune pull as often as possible; every day, once a week, with the moon phases or anything to create consistency. This is how you learn the Runes by pulling one and looking up its meaning and trying to decipher how and why that Rune was meant for you today. Once you start to connect the symbols and meaning you can start to layer them into your everyday life, for example, I draw a protection symbol (Algiz) on my children before they leave the house for the day and they do the same for me. The magick of Runes is endless and I think every witch should try this form of divination. Again I mention the Rune Quick Reference Guide that is perfect for a beginner, it is available as a laminated flip book or a digital download.

Runes are an easy and magickal way to connect with the divine world. They have power because you believe they do! Join us by posting a picture of your Rune set with #RuneWitchIC
